You are encouraged to comment on Broadway Bridge
The time for public feedback on the Broadway Bridge rebuilding project is drawing to a close. The original MetroPlan overview called for constructing an additional bridge west of Broadway before the rebuilding project began to help minimize the estimated $50 million in costs due to traffic disturbance during the rebuilding project. These costs are not part of the rebuilding project itself but are estimates of the effect on commuters, businesses, etc.. Due to a variety of issues, of which funding is one, construction of an additional bridge west of Broadway does not seem immediately feasible.
You can see the proposed Broadway Bridge designs and costs and print out a response form here. You can also leave comments on a site dedicated to the Broadway Bridge project. These comments will be provided to the Arkansas Highway Transportation Department - the entity responsible for the project. You can also contact the Mayor's office to leave feedback on this issue.
Finally, if you prefer Facebook, you can follow the Broadway Bridge project there, too.
The time for the public to comment and affect the project has nearly passed, so act soon if you have an opinion.
The photos below compare a 16 foot wide pedestrian/bike lane to a 23 foot wide pedestrian/bike lane. If you or folks you know plan to walk or ride along the bridge, you can use these photos to form an opinion on one of the questions in the MetroPlan survey.
